Dr. Nigel
Butler, DVM - Shubenacadie
Nigel was raised on a dairy
farm in Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. After moving to
Canada in 1968 he attended the University of Guelph in 1970,
graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1976. He
joined Fundy Veterinarians in 1977 after practicing for one
year in a mixed practice in Trenton, Ontario. He works
predominantly with cattle and small ruminants. He and his
spouse Kathryn have four children and live in Elmsdale with
their dog Tip.
Dr. Jane Eye,
DVM
- Shubenacadie
Originally from Halifax, Jane
graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1978.
She attended and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College
in 1983. Jane previously practiced in Digby and Halifax, and
was employed by the government for three and a half years,
before joining Fundy Veterinarians in 1990. Jane resides in
Meagher’s Grant with her Jack Russell, Cricket. In her spare
time, she enjoys running, biking and riding her horse, Shadow.
Dr.
Trevor Lawson, DVM, MSc, BSc (Agr.) - Shubenacadie
Originally from New Brunswick,
Trevor first moved to Nova Scotia in 1994 to attend the NSAC
where he met his wife Tammy. After several years living in
Manitoba and Prince Edward Island, Trevor and Tammy returned
to Nova Scotia in 2005 and reside in Carroll's Corner with
their son Isaac and a small herd of animals. Trevor is a
graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, the
University of Manitoba and the Atlantic Veterinary College.
Trevor's practice is focused on large animals, in particular
horses and cattle.
Dr. Ed
MacAulay, DVM - Truro
Ed grew up on a mixed farm in Colchester
County and competed school at Central Colchester High School
in Onslow. He attended University of Guelph and obtained his
DVM degree from Ontario Veterinary College. He and his brother
Al founded Fundy Veterinarians in 1971 in Shubenacadie. Ed and
Joan moved to Murray Siding when the practice acquired Truro
Animal Hospital from Dr. Nettleton in 1978. Mixed practice has
always been Ed’s scope of interest, working with all species
including domestic livestock, equine and pets. Ed and Joan
raised their three daughters on their hobby farm with a
variety of animals and pets. The granddogs, Kiya and Mishkin
are now frequent visitors. Other interests include gardening,
outdoor activities and camping.
Dr. Frank
Schenkels, DVM - Shubenacadie
Frank lives in Fort Ellis with
his wife Luanne, their two sons Aiden and Jared and his
daughter Marika. Frank grew up on a dairy farm near Miramichi,
New Brunswick. He graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1986 and practiced
briefly in Peterborough, Ontario before being enticed back to
Nova Scotia. He has been with Fundy Vets since 1987 and
practicing large animal medicine since then with a major
interest in dairy practice. Frank graduated from the Dairy
Health Management Certificate Program in 1994. He is a member
of American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Atlantic
Bovine Practitioners Association and the National Mastitus
Council. In his free time Frank enjoys sailing, skiing, soccer
and farming.
Dr. Wilma
Schenkels, DVM - Truro
Wilma grew up on a dairy farm
near Miramichi, New Brunswick. Intent on a career in
agriculture, she attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College
before graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in
1991. She started her career in mixed animal practice Ontario
and Antigonish, Nova Scotia. In 1994 she married Ed Macmillan
and moved to Truro to join the staff at Fundy Veterinarians.
Wilma continues to work in mixed animal practice with a strong
interest in dairy production medicine.
Wilma currently divides her time between work and her four
children who keep her busy both as chauffeur and coach for the
various activities they are involved in.
Dr. Donna
Spracklin, DVM, DipLAM - Truro
Donna grew up in Halifax,
moving on to graduate from the Nova Scotia Agricultural
College in 1974, and the Ontario Veterinary College in 1978.
She practiced first in Ottawa and Halifax before marrying, and
settled in Shubenacadie with Fundy Veterinarians in 1982.
She now makes Truro home with her husband Paul, two sons David
and Jeffrey, and pets Aggiedog and Rosiecat. Her early
years involved mixed practice but today she works with dogs,
cats and the many other small mammal species kept as pets,
potbellied pigs being included! Her hobbies include
hiking, tennis and hockey.
Dr.
Petra Suidgeest, DVM - Truro & Shubenacadie
Petra grew up in Shubenacadie
on a dairy farm. After high school, she attended the Nova
Scotia Agricultural College for two years before going on to
the Atlantic Veterinarian College, where she graduated in
1997.
She worked briefly for Fundy
Veterinarians after graduation, before going to Newry, Ontario
for a year to work in a mixed practice. She returned from
Ontario in 1999 and has worked in mixed practice for Fundy
Vets between the two hospitals ever since.
Petra and husband Kris share
their home with 2 cats, Mishka and Onyx, and a dog, Chance.
In her spare time, Petra can be
found taking Chance for walks around the neighborhood and
playing mixed slo-pitch in the summer time.
