Dr. Rachel McEwen is originally from Eastern Ontario, but she now calls Nova Scotia home. She received her B.Sc in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph, then completed her DVM at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2018. Upon graduation, she completed an intensive internship at Rhinebeck Equine in New York where she developed her equine skills alongside specialists in surgery, internal medicine, theriogenology, and ophthalmology. “Dr. Rachel” then worked in an equine practice in the Ottawa area until 2022. Rachel has enjoyed working with the horse people of Nova Scotia since her start with Fundy Vets in 2023. From the top performers to the smallest “pasture puffs”, she wants to help every patient feel their best. Rachel has a soft spot for seniors and foals, and has always enjoyed reproductive cases.

Rachel has a busy house with her husband, two toddlers, a goofy lab and a spicy kitty. She has a retired Thoroughbred, Buddy, whose impressive carpal injury set her on the path to becoming an equine veterinarian.

Rachel is a tea enthusiast who has finally been converted to coffee (it might be related to the toddlers). She likes reading, although most of her books are now audiobooks so she can listen while driving between appointments. She is grateful she has been able to start back into recreational riding and hopes her kids will one day share her love of horses.
